Concept book developed for director Afonso Poyart with illustrations by Tiago Silva.
This project focused on the creation of a concept book for a feature-length film, telling the powerful and imaginative story of an unconventional superhero born in one of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Gifted with the extraordinary ability to travel through time, this character navigates the complex social and cultural realities of his community while uncovering his true purpose.
My responsibilities included concept design, field research, and art direction/finalization. A key challenge was to visually translate the emotional depth and raw energy of the narrative while keeping it grounded in a realistic, relatable environment. To achieve this, the illustrations were skillfully blended with real-world photography and urban landscapes, creating a hybrid visual language that reinforced the authenticity and social relevance of the story.
This combination of illustrated elements and photographic backdrops helped bridge fantasy with reality, reflecting the film’s core message: that even in the most overlooked places, powerful and meaningful stories can emerge. The concept book was a vital tool for aligning the creative vision across departments and pitching the film to potential producers and investors.
